New Study Shows Heavy Decline In Rock And Metal Fans In The US
While the genre is still highly relevant, rock has been surpassed by hip hop and r&b, who have claimed 25,1% of all music listeners in the United States of America. Rock music has claimed the second spot with 23% of all music listeners in the US.
The data for this study was provided by Nielsen Music, whose data also made our article about the most relevant 2017 artists possible. Nielsen Music is an organization that tracks album sales, streams, and radio play. Nielsen Music has been tracking this data since 1991 and this is the first time that Rock isn’t the most favourite genre.
Streaming wise Hip Hop is also on top, while Rock remains to be the best genre for album sales. 40% of the album sales are coming from the Rock genre, showing that eventhough we’re being outnumbered, we’re still the most loyal fanbase out there!
