KISS’ Gene Simmons is currently in the process of trying to trademark the iconic ‘Devil Horns’ gesture. Simmons claims that the gesture was first used in commerce all the way back to 1974, on November 14th to be exact.
At that day and month, KISS were touring on their ‘Hotter Than Hell’ tour.

Simmons has applied for trademarking, which can be seen here.

Gene Simmons might be headed for trouble though, as sources are claiming that the ‘Devil horns’ gesture was already in use back in 5th century before Christ.
The same gesture is also the sign for ‘I love you’ in the American Sign Language.

In case you’d wish to know more about the process and struggles, find out the Hollywood Reporter’s in-depth article about it here.
